The biggest culinary competition happens in Manila this August.

The Food Showdown 2007 is a three-day event that will be holding over 20 competitions. From August 13 to 15, professionals and students in the hospitality industry will gather at the Philippine Trade and Training Center (Philtrade), corner Buendia and Roxas Boulevard, to test their skill and artistry in the various contests slated. Among those are “The Gourmet Cold Buffet Challenge”, “The Picnic Basket” and “The Fine Dining Challenge.”

The centerpiece of the competitions, however, is “Chef Wars”. Here, teams create culinary masterpieces and gustatory delights on site. This involves recipe making and live cooking. There will be three major Chef Wars category-Classical Continental, Filipino Classical and Freestyle. A take on the popular cooking show, Iron Chef, “Chef Wars” also includes secret ingredients and cooking several dishes under time pressure.

The Food Showdown 2007 will have a panel of judges comprised of seasoned food and beverage professionals. Among them are chefs, hospitality industry managers, professors of hotel and restaurant management and editors and writers of culinary magazines.

Sidelights of the event are free seminars (F&B finance and marketing, food writing, food photography and styling), food display and industry booths.

The Food Showdown 2007 is a project of the culinary television show, “Chef TV: The Food Show”. Highlights of the various competitions will featured in a one-hour special to be aired in the Lifestyle Channel.

The three-day event is open to the public. Tickets are priced at P150 per day and are available at the PTTC from August 13 to 15.
